Clinical Academic Position – Cytopathologist / Hematopathologist

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University, London Health Sciences Centre, and St. Joseph’s Health Care London, is seeking an anatomical or general pathologist with diagnostic expertise in Cytopathology and/or Hematopathology for a full-time clinical academic appointment. 

Position Profile: In addition to their areas of expertise, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in an additional surgical pathology subspecialty service and participate in the on-call coverage rota. Participation in teaching and supervision of undergraduate students, residents, and clinical fellows, as well as research and quality initiatives is expected. Candidates will hold a full-time, limited-term clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor or a continuing appointment as Associate or Full Professor, depending upon experience and qualifications at the time of appointment.

Qualifications: Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent and be eligible for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and must have certification in Anatomical or General Pathology. For the Cytopathology position, the preferred candidate will have experience and/or advanced training in cytopathology recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Area of Focused Competence) or the American Board of Pathology. For the Hematopathology position, the preferred candidate will have experience and/or fellowship training in hematopathology. 

The Department and Hospital: The Department is intent on being a leader in diagnostic pathology in Canada while fulfilling the academic mandate of London Health Sciences Centre as an award-winning research-intensive acute care tertiary and quaternary teaching hospital. The Pathology Program is fully subspecialized with an annual workload of over 60,000 surgical cases, 20,000 cytology cases (7,500 GYN; 12,500 Non-GYN with approximately 3,000 FNAs from superficial and deep sites, including EBUS and EUS samples) and 1,000 autopsies. London Health Sciences Centre is home to a Royal College-accredited Area of Focused Competence (AFC) in Cytopathology. The Department has a long history of collegiality and excellence in many areas of diagnostic service, teaching and research, and represents an environment conducive to career and personal development. The Department is undergoing digital transformation of its Pathology services for routine use of digital pathology for primary diagnosis in pathology.

Compensation: Compensation for this position will be primarily composed of hospital funding aligned with the Ontario MOH Laboratory Medicine Funding Framework Agreement.
