The Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at Queen’s University invites applications for the position of academic Hematopathologist with training/expertise in Transfusion Medicine.
Qualifications. Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent). Candidates must be eligible for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and must hold Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification or American Board of Medical Specialties in Hematological Pathology or Clinical Pathology. Appointment will be at an academic rank commensurate with experience.
The Department. We are a very collegial department, with a strong culture of scholarship. The expectation of the successful appointee will include participation in routine hematopathology service including blood film, bone marrow, hemoglobinopathy, flow cytometry and hemostasis sign out, as well as to aid in the oversight and operation of the Transfusion Medicine Laboratory for Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) and affiliated regional hospitals. We are an academic health sciences centre with a full Hematology/Oncology service, an active autologous stem cell transplant program, cardiac surgery, regional trauma centre, Level 3 NICU and renal transplant program. Although primarily a clinical position, a strong potential for and/or experience in innovative scholarly research or quality improvement would be an asset with the expectation that the candidate will also participate in collaborative research that would mesh with ongoing activities in the Division of Hematopathology and the larger Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine. Demonstration of a strong potential for teaching contributions in the Department’s undergraduate, graduate and residency training programs will also be expected.
Compensation and protected time. There is potential for flexibility in the balance of service and academic time commitments for this position. The minimum compensation for pathologists in Ontario is $383,000 (CAD) per year.

The successful candidate will provide evidence of an ability to work in an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment. Applicants should demonstrate strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions in the department’s undergraduate, graduate, and residency training programs. We will further prioritize a track record of and potential for improving the practice of pathology through research, education, quality improvement, or clinical innovation.
The successful incumbent will be expected to provide 70% clinical services and 30% teaching / research (to be divided based on departmental need and personal interest at the time of hiring). The expectation of services is 45 hours/week for 45 weeks/year and participation in pathology on call services.
