Description: Applications are invited for a one-year fellowship in Surgical Pathology, commencing July 1, 2024. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Western University, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care is a referral centre for all of Southwestern Ontario, and is one of the largest single departments in Canada, handling over 60,000 surgical specimens, 20,000 cytology specimens and 1,000 autopsies annually. The volume of case material, quality of the faculty and general educational environment make this a rich and nurturing centre in which to enhance diagnostic skills and carry out research.
Duties and Responsibilities: This fellowship may be in one or two surgical pathology subspecialty areas. Most of the fellow’s time will be allocated to clinical service, during which they will be given time and direction to develop and improve knowledge and skills in anatomical pathology. The fellow will be expected to participate in one or more independent research projects suitable for peer review publication. There will be opportunities to participate in medical student and resident teaching and to present at discipline specific seminars and rounds. A component of independent sign-out is encouraged.
Required Qualifications: Minimum requirements include an MD (or equivalent) degree, certification (or anticipated certification) in Diagnostic and Molecular Pathology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) and eligibility for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario; licensing that permits independent practice will be regarded as an asset. This position is open to all qualified candidates; however priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada, and to trainees from Canadian residency programs. International medical graduates must ascertain their eligibility for registration with the College before applying.
